Scott Moore

Scott Moore: Director of Tennis

I am proud to be the Director of Orange Lawn for my eighth tennis season; we have a great club with so many good people and programs to offer.

I was born and raised in Alabama and my entire family is and has been involved in tennis for as long as I can remember. My parents, both USPTA Professionals and retired college tennis coaches created a strong tennis platform for me at an early age. My father, Bal Moore, is rated a USPTA Master Pro, the highest rating in the United States Professional Tennis Association. In addition, he retired in 1995 with over 700 collegiate victories. My mother, Marcha, coached her collegiate team to four top 5 National Rankings and served as world team coach for the Paralympics in Barcelona, Spain. They retired in Naples, Florida where you might imagine, they play tennis. My brother, Guy Moore, is the Director of Tennis at Plainfield Country Club in Edison, New Jersey, less than 20 minutes from Orange Lawn Tennis Club. He lives less than four minutes from me in Montclair and we remain very close. As you might now imagine, tennis was a priority in my life from the beginning and still is.

Finally, here is a brief summary of my career. My first head job was Head Tennis Coach at Wallace State College in Birmingham, Alabama. Wallace State is a junior college with a 7,500 enrollment and nationally competitive athletic teams. I implemented Wallace State’s tennis program in 1994 building a team of highly ranked players from throughout the world. I had teams (men and women) that consisted of players from countries such as Sweden, Holland, Ecuador, England, South Africa and the United States. In 1995, in only our second year of tennis, Wallace State won both the Men’s and Women’s National Junior College Championships. In 1996, our Men’s team won their second national title while the Women’s team finished 5th nationally.

From Wallace State, I became the Director of Tennis at Racquette Lake Camps in upstate New York for a summer season before moving to New Jersey to become the Assistant Tennis Director at Plainfield Country Club in New Jersey. There, I spent three years teaching paddle, tennis and squash. In addition, I was the Junior Tennis Director for 110 juniors. After three years, I accepted the position as Tennis Director at Bay Head Yacht Club in Bay Head, New Jersey where I spent two seasons. Although Bay Head was only a summer position, the tennis program was quite extensive with 900 family memberships, over 300 juniors and required a tennis staff of ten. In 2003, I accepted the position as Director of Tennis here at Orange Lawn. As I mentioned before, this is my seventh season and I am once again excited to see everyone on the tennis courts.
